Summary of Instrument Usage (1999-2003):
- Overall, we
averaged 10.4 beam hours per day (365 day/year basis). Note that extended
maintenance periods occured in 2000 and 2003.
- External
NSF-sponsored users accounted for 6617 hours of analysis time. This represents
about 35% of the total usage over this interval or roughly 110 days per year when
expressed in terms of 12 hour days.
- Internal ion
microprobe group members accounted for 9280 hours (49%). Of this, 5583 hours (29%) were
devoted to NSF-sponsored projects. Therefore,
NSFs share of instrument time has been 12200 hours (64%) over the last five years.
- Total non-NSF
usage was 5067 hours or 27% of the total instrument time. This work was funded by
NASA, DoE, NIST, NIH, PRF, and other agencies.
- Testing and
development of new and existing instrumental capabilities and analytical methods was 1791
hours or 9% of the total instrument time. This
category does not include down time required for repairs or routine maintenance which is
also an important part of maintaining a facility.
