BibTeX Database Help

If you are planning on editing the database, please start with edit_bibtex.php.

The database used for the publications is compatible with a subset of the files that work with BibTeX. All of the bibtex tags names (like author) must start at the beginning of the line and the data itself must be all on that line and wrapped in braces. Authors must be listed Firstname Last, and pages need to have a double dash between them. Also only a limited number of entry types are set-up to work. Also the key used to disambiguate entries must immediatly follow the opening brace of the entry like @author{key,. The key can be anything, however we have been using the first author's last name (using ASCII characters only) followed a colin and then the year.

The php scripts reverse the order of the BibTeX files. Put most recent entries at the end/bottom of the file.

Publication List

The php scripts publications.php, citationdetails.php, and recent_pub_rss.php all parse the bibtex file publications.bib in a similar manner (the javascript file preview_database.js does something similar for edit_bibtex.php). They support the 'article' and 'incollection' entry types. For 'articles' the fields of 'title', 'journal', 'year', 'volume', 'number', 'month', 'pages', 'note', 'annote', 'keywords', 'url', 'doi', 'abstract' are supported. For 'incollection' the fields of 'author', 'booktitle', 'editor', 'publisher', 'year', 'volume', 'number', 'month', 'pages', 'note', 'annote', 'keywords', 'url', and 'abstract' are all supported. Since recent_pub_rss.php is a RSS feed it does not convert all LaTeX formatting because is a type of XML that doesn't support all of the HTML 4.0 entities (see search_help.php for supported XML).

abstract={We report, for the first time, a direct, atomic-scale characterization of Pb in zircon (4.4-3.1 Ga) from the early Archean Yilgarn craton in Australia using high-resolution HAADF-STEM. Two forms of Pb have been identified: Pb concentrated at ~ 3 atom\% as a nanoscale patch in zircon structure, and Pb concentrated within the amorphous domain created by fission fragment damage. The first result suggests that the Pb atoms directly substitute for Zr$^{4+}$ in the zircon structure, and the latter observation demonstrates that Pb diffusion can occur through amorphous regions created by radiation damage, although volume diffusion is typically considered to be the dominant mechanism for Pb diffusion. Beyond the first percolation point, i.e., when the amorphous domains overlap and form a fully interconnected network of amorphous domains, there is a new pathway for the diffusion of Pb that is faster than volume diffusion through crystalline zircon.}

Student Theses

The php script theses.php supports the 'phdthesis' and 'mastersthesis' entry types that should be used depending on if it was a Ph.D or Masters level thesis that was completed. Both entry types support 'author', 'title', 'school', 'year' 'month', 'note', 'annote', 'keywords', 'url', and 'abstract' fields. For theses.php to work properly there must be an author name.
