SIMS Student Workshop 2014

The sixth UCLA Ion Microprobe Student Workshop was held Feb 17-21 2014 with generous support from the NSF Instrumentation and Facilities program. Twenty two students from nearly as many universities attended  the workshop. During the week-long workshop, lectures were held on the fundamentals of SIMS and SIMS' roles in geology and geochemistry with hands-on demonstrations of the UCLA ims 1270 ion microprobe and its auxiliary facilities and instrumentation by the Facility's researchers and faculty. We also extend our thanks to Andrew Davis (University of Chicago) for his guest lecture on CHILI, a new type of SIMS instrument.

We would like to thank the participants for the stimulating, quizzical discussions and for making it such a memorable week. We also thank NSF for their support that made this a successful workshop.
